Root Canals

A cracked tooth, a deep cavity or trauma to a tooth can cause damage that requires a root canal. By removing the damaged area of the tooth (the pulp), cleaning and disinfecting it and then filling and sealing it, we’re able to save your tooth, instead of losing it.

What to Expect

What to expect on your visits.

  • Visit 1

    The dentist will complete a thorough review of your medical history and an exam of your affected tooth. We will complete digital radiographs and testing of your tooth to evaluate for signs of nerve vitality and signs of infection. A tooth diagnosis will be given based on the findings of your exam and our team will discuss recommended treatment with you

  • Visit 2

    After numbing your gums and placing anesthetic to “put your tooth to sleep” your dentist will isolate your tooth to help make the procedure more comfortable. Your dentist will proceed to access and clean the nerve inside of the tooth. Digital radiographs will periodically be taken during the procedure to ensure accurate measurements of your tooth. Once your tooth is completely clean on the inside, we fill the inside of the tooth with a biocompatible material to seal the nerve chamber from outside bacteria. A filling is then placed over the top of the access area for the root canal

Dr. Dan Duffy, DMD

Dr. Dan Duffy is a native of Point Pleasant, NJ. After completing undergraduate studies at East Carolina University (Greenville, NC), he entered ECU's School of Dental Medicine, receiving a Doctorate of Dental Medicine in 2016.
